Renaissance The Renaissance was an era in European history beginning in Italy April 6, 1341 CE with the crowning of Francesco Petrarch and lasted until May 6, 1527, CE when Spanish and German troops sacked Rome. These dates are commonly accepted, but historians cannot agree on an exact date. The term renaissance is used because it is French for "rebirth", and it was indeed a rebirth in culture, learning, art, music, science, and technology.
