Other Artists

This is the place where all the artists that I have yet to make a page for reside. That isn't to say they aren't as good, it's just that I'm too lazy to make a page for them. So I've added plenty of links for all my other favorite bands. Enjoy.

Aerosmith

Hailing from Boston Aerosmith has been pumping out hits since 1970 with Dream On. They have all the workings of classical rock with the standard electric guitar, drums, and bass, but they also have a lot of brass, keyboard, harmonica, and many other instruments to help give a more robust hard rock sound. The band has plenty of style and are visually appealing as well. The band is still together today with many great hits including Walk This Way, Love In an Elevator, Crazy, Pink, and I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing.

Alanis Morissette

With hits like Ironic, You Outta Know, and Head Over Feet, the Canadian born Alanis Morissette has become a household name. Her angsty lyrics combined with pop rock music and screaming vocals have become mainstream to both the youth and adults all over the world. She had to claw her way to the top by doing cheeky pop music in the 80s, but finally took control of her own work with the release of her more recent albums. Other hits include One Hand in My Pocket, Eight Easy Steps, and Everything.

Azure Ray

Azure Ray is a mellow indie band consisting of Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink. They met at the age of 15 while they were both attending the Alabama School of Fine Arts. While they both have their side projects, their main drive is Azure Ray. Their music style focuses on whispered vocals and acoustic instruments creating a hollow sound unlike any other. Their harmonizing vocals give their music a very smooth feeling and their rather depressing lyrics are perfect for wallowing in bad moods.

The Barenaked Ladies

Who would have ever thought that five Canadians could make great music? BNL has won the hearts of millions with their unique sound of alternative pop rock and crazy comedic stage shows. Founded in 1988, BNL sings light-hearted songs like If I Had $1000000, but then contrasts with more serious songs like Pinch Me and Call and Answer. They have incorporated many special sounds like their slick white boy rap lyrics in One Week and plenty of different instruments.

The Darkness

This retro glam rock band jumped into the top of the charts in 2002 with their debut album Permission to Land. Their songs I Believe in a Thing Called Love and Keep Your Hands Off of My Woman were very well received. Although The Darkness borrows heavily from late 70's glam like Queen and David Bowie, they have created a unique sound and style that is as much camp as it is art. Combine ear-piercing falsetto vocals, powerful rock and roll music, and amazing live performance and you have this old-school original, The Darkness.

David Bowie

The Thin White Duke has been around for decades covering multiple music genres including rock, techno, pop, and glam. His unique style and clever lyrics have made him fashionable, but his great vocals and musical talent have given him longevity. Some of his more popular songs include Space Oddity, Let's Dance, and Fame. Bowie's life has been a roller coaster of drugs, sex, and rock and roll, but he's always landed on top. I must also mention his amazing work in the movie Labyrinth where he wrote and sung several songs.

Don McLean

Don McLean is a talented singer/songwriter from New York. His poetic lyrics and mellow music are a tribute to American folk music and help define the genre. The sound is typical to folk using assorted acoustic instruments like the guitar and banjo. Don's first album came out in 1970, and many more were to follow. Like most folk singers he is widely ignored by popular culture. He is best known for his epically long masterpiece American Pie, but he had other hits as well such as Vincent and And I Love You So.

Evanescence

Although still very new from their 1999 formation, Evanescence has quickly become a great force in the rock industry having several hits off their debut album Fallen including Wake Me Up Inside, Going Under, and My Immortal. The band continues to play strong even after their original lead guitarist quit the band during the middle of a tour. Their sound is modern hard rock with almost operatic vocals from the whimsical lead vocalist Amy Lee.

Eve 6

Eve 6 was an alternative/punk band from California. They started in 1995 under the name Eleventeen then changed their name to Eve 6. Their last show was played in 2004. The band consisted of three members playing guitar, drums, bass, and vocals. Their self titled debut album was highly acclaimed with hits like Inside Out and Leech. Their second album also had a hit with Here's to the Night. Unfortunately, their third album did poorly and RCA dropped their contract causing the band to split up. They also had a hit single with Anytime.

Golden Earring

This Dutch band has been together since 1965 playing classic rock with an infusion of early punk style. They have had two hits in America, namely Radar Love and Twilight Zone, but have had several other hits world wide. Their sound is true to classic rock roots with the typical drums and electric guitar, but they also add some nice brass to their music. Most of their songs contain fairly long and technical instrumental breaks that show off their talent as musicians which has no doubt discouraged some radio play..

Green Day

Green Day is a refined mainstream punk band from California that formed in 1989 and takes inspiration from The Clash. They started in the underground scene and rose through the ranks and signed with Warner Brothers. They released Dookie and had several hit singles like Longview and Basket Case. They played at Woodstock '94, and won a Grammy in the same year. Other hits include Good Riddance off the Nimrod album and American Idiot and Boulevard of Broken Dreams of the American Idiot album.

Guns N' Roses

Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock group founded in 1985. They released their first album in 1987 which quickly rose the charts. They were immensely popular in the late 80s / early 90s with several hits like Sweet Child O' Mine, Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Don't Cry, and November Rain. The music is solid and impressive, but the band quickly dropped in popularity due to their heavy drug problems and tempermental front man Axl Rose. Axl is the only original member left in the group and a real album hasn't been made in over a decade.

Metallica

This thrash metal band formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, CA. Metallica set the pace for American metal upon the release of their first few albums. The album that gave them world recognition, causing many to say they sold out, was the self-titled album known as the Black Album that featured slower songs and more soul-searching lyrics than before. The next few albums were an experimental time for the band, as such most of the original fans were disappointed. Popular Metallica songs include "Master of Puppets", "Enter Sandman", and "Nothing Else Matters".

Robb Roy

Founded in the great city of Detroit in 1997, Robb Roy is a strong sounding heavy metal group. The band has yet to become mainstream and still plays to smaller venues around Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. The songs of their first four albums are poetic and brutal with all the power that a modern metal band should have. Two of my favorite songs include "Man Named Sam" and "Shine".

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Tom Petty has been rocking with the Heartbreakers since 1976 and has also created several solo albums like the multi-platnium Full Moon Fever. Thier music ranges from folk to rock all with a mild southern sound mixed in. The topics seen through the music include relationships, rebellion, and loneliness. Some of their hits include Refugee, Won't Back Down, Runnin' Down A Dream, and You Don't Know How It Feels.

Voltaire

Freak, nerd, weirdo, call him what you like, but Voltaire has become a staple artist in any self-respecting goth's cd case. Inspired by European folk, Voltaire has a very impressive sound with dark disturbing lyrics. From his jealous desires to murder his ex-lover's lovers to his desperate need to kill the man upstairs, the music is both eerie and melodious. Voltaire shows off his culture by singing in several different languages while also making an album dedicated to Star Trek.

Weezer

This alternative rock group hit it big with their self-titled debut album with several hits including Undone (The Sweater Song), Buddy Holly, and Say It Ain't So. An impressive feat for the Los Angeles band who formed in 1992. They have since added several more hits to their growing list such as Hash Pipe and Dope Nose, all the while making it seem cool to be a nerd.

The Who

One of the more prominent English rock groups is this band, founded in London in 1964. The Who has several hits including My Generation, Who Are You, and Baba O'Riley. Although two core members have passed away (John Entwistle and Keith Moon), The Who is still together with Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey. The Who's was noted for their violent stages shows which often ended with them destroying their instruments and equipment. The band also put out an angry attitude which was the war cry for the rebellious teenagers of the day.
