I only watched the first two episodes and found the show to be awful. The source material has been hacked to pieces and only basic ideas of it were used in the show, but the biggest problem is, all the seriousness from the book was replaced with basic American situational comedy.

I have watched the first two episodes, but it was enough to conclude that the show is awful. The source material has been hacked to pieces; only the basic premise is used in the show. The story is now set in California and the characters are all American, except for Fiona. The pilot episode even focuses on the ending of [[About a Boy (film)|the film]], which had nothing to do with the book. These changes could be forgivable if the show was great, but all the seriousness from the book was replaced with basic shallow American situational comedy. Very disappointing.
