Personal

Own?Yes. CD.

My older brother and sister got a hold of this album in the late 1980s and played it frequently, though my mother didn't approve of the lyrics, so they sometimes had to listen to it only when she wasn't around. I also heard some of the songs on the radio. I was a bit too young to really care about music at the time, but most of the songs stuck in my mind so that, when I was older and more interested in music, the songs quickly came back to me. Now that I'm much older, I find the lyrics to be a bit juvenile, but I still like the music the the heavy rock helped shape my tastes through my late teens and early 20s.

Track Listing

The original vinyl release labeled the sides G and R rather than they typical A and B. Songs on the "guns" side are about drugs and violence, while songs on the "roses" side are more about love and romance. All songs are sung by Axel Rose.

Album Covers

Originally, Axl wanted the cover to be a photograph of the Challenger space shuttle exploding, but the publisher refused. The album was initially published with a painting made by Robert Williams in 1978 entitled Appetite for Destruction (where the album would take its name). However, since sales were stunted by retailers refusing to display the album, it was reissued shortly thereafter with a tattoo design drawn by Billy White Jr. The design was initially intended to be a tattoo for Axl Rose who described his idea and White designed it. A refined version with the title in banners was made for the CD release later that same year.
