Barenaked Ladies, circa 2017.
Barenaked Ladies is a Canadian alternative rock group known for their comedic lyrics and impressive stage performances. The group formed in 1988 as a duo with Ed Robertson and Steven Page, but brought on Jim Creeggan, Andy Creeggan, and Tyler Stewart before recording their first studio album. In 1995, Andy Creeggan left and was replaced by Kevin Hearn. In 2009, Steven Page left to begin a solo career and Hearn replaced him on vocals.
Personal
I first heard about Barenaked Ladies from a substitute teacher in high school (who later lost his job for inappropriate relations with a former student). He described going to the concert and throwing macaroni during If I Had $1,000,000, but I never heard any of the music. A couple years later, my friend Heather was a fan of the band and played me some of their music. She and I dated for awhile, slightly after the release of Stunt and during the release of Maroon. Although I wasn't a huge fan of the group initially, listening to them a lot and learning more about them caused them to grow on me, and they became a favorite of mine. However, I stopped following them after Everything to Everyone, and haven't liked anything else I've heard of theirs since. I saw the band in concert with Alanis Morissette in the mid-2000s.
