CDex.

CDex is an open source audio CD ripper which uses an unobtrusive nagware model. This has been my go-to CD ripper for years now.

Supported Audio Formats: AAC, APE, FLAC, MP2, MP3, MPC, OGG, VQF, WAV, WMA

Review

Good

  • It has a no-nonsense interface.
  • It supports ripping into several formats, including FLAC.
  • It has support for CDDB for easy tagging.
  • It has pretty good jitter correction, and was able to salvage songs that my CD player couldn't read.

Bad

  • CDex's installer is mildly dishonest and tries to install Avast Antivirus by default. You just need to uncheck it.
  • When selecting the meta tag for genre, you're forced to pick from their pre-defined list. So, unless you have basic taste, you'll have to change the tag after the fact.

Ugly

  • Nothing.
