Damsel in distress is an extremely common trope in fiction where a female character requires a male character to save her. Although I don't have a problem with the damsel in distress trope by itself, I find the fact that it is so ubiquitous in fiction to be troubling. In real life, women probably don't find themselves in distressing situations about 100 times more frequently than men, and, when they do, they're probably quite capable of solving their own troubles. I much prefer strong female characters.
