David Robert Jones (1947-01-08 - 2016-01-10), known professionally as David Bowie, was an English musician and actor. As a musician, he composed music, wrote lyrics, sung, and played various instruments. He spanned several musical genres throughout his career, but primarily focused on different forms of rock music, mostly glam rock and art rock. True to those subgenres, Bowie was especially fashionable making his personal look and stage performances a large part of his appeal.
David Bowie frequently appeared on the various radio stations I listened to in my childhood, and I remember seeing him in the film Labyrinth in the late 1980s. I also remember hearing him in Queen's Under Pressure in my late teens. My high school girlfriend really like him, and she bought a compilation album of his, which increased my awareness. However, I didn't really become interested in his music until I was in my mid-teens when my friend Sarah, who was a huge fan, began letting me borrow some of her albums and show me some of the films he was in. So, I began to follow Bowie a little more closely, and even saw him in concert.
