Go cue
A go cue is a visual or auditory indication used to let the player know they may advance in the game. Go cues are often employed in games which allow the player to move through a map, but then halt the player's progress until they perform a task, as is common in beat 'em ups. Once the task is completed, the go cue is given to the player informing them that they may press onward once again. Go cues typically appear as an arrow, a pointing finger, or the word "go," they are usually placed on the edge of the screen toward where the player is expected to travel, are displayed flashing to be more noticeable, and play a sound effect with their appearance.
Examples
Double Dragon flashes a pointing thumb.
Golden Axe flashes a sword and the word "go!"
Mighty Final Fight alternates between a thumb and the word "go."
Streets of Rage flashes an arrow with the word "go."
