I especially love that Blume doesn't talk down to her readers or write books without substance. Instead, she covers a multitude of topics that directly pertain to children, some of which parents are afraid to discuss with their children including lying, bullying, religion, menstruation, eating disorders, divorce, racism, sex, and masturbation. Because of this, Blume's book are among the most challenged by Conservatives who want to "protect" their children.

Judy Blume (born Judith Sussman; 1938-02-12), is an American writer most famous for her books written for children and teens, although she has also written adult novels and non-fiction books.

Personal

I think the first Judy Blume book I ever read was Freckle Juice in elementary school, and, throughout grade school, I read several more of her works. I also read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing with my mother and sister. When my daughters were born, I re-read several of her books to see which ones would be best for my girls, and, by reading about her books, I learned she also wrote a handful of teen and adult fiction, which I tried as well.

I especially love that Blume doesn't talk down to her readers or write books without substance. Instead, she covers a multitude of topics that directly pertain to children, many of which some parents are afraid to discuss with their children including lying, bullying, religion, menstruation, eating disorders, divorce, racism, sex, and masturbation. Because of this, Blume's book are among the most challenged by Conservatives who want to "protect" their children.
