This is a list of books that are not necessarily my favorites, but I think they are so important, I believe everyone should read them.

Fiction

  • Animal Farm - A fable about revolution and fascism and how people tend to become corrupt.
  • Epic of Gilgamesh - While the story itself is quite dull, it is effectively the earliest example of a human story and provides insight into our shared culture.
  • The Handmaid's Tale - A frightening look at what would happen if the USA was taken over by fundamental Christianity.
  • Little House In the Big Woods - The semi-fictional early childhood or a pioneer girl. It describes how early American settlers acquired food, made their own clothes and tools, and the dangers they faced.
  • Nineteen Eighty Four - Another dark tale about what happens when evil people are allowed to be in charge.

Non-Fiction
