Mario is a Nintendo franchise that has become the biggest video game empire in history. It has spawned games, television shows, movies, comic books, even breakfast cereals.

My very first experience with this series was at an arcade around 1986-1987. There was a VS. System cabinet with Super Mario Bros. on it. I didn't know you were supposed to hit the question mark blocks, or that you could jump on the goombas. Suffice to say, I didn't get very far. I later saw Super Mario Bros. on my baby sitter's NES and though the game was really cool. When my brother and I bought our NES around 1988, I played the game religiously.

To this day, I still love the 2D Mario games, but I haven't been very impressed with the 3D Mario games because the dynamic has changed so much.
