Over the years, Microsoft published several card games for the Windows operating system. Most were video game adaptions of various forms of solitaire, but a handful were multiplayer games. Each uses the French suits for playing cards. All these early titles were side projects written by Microsoft's developers and had the quality you would expect from a developer without professional game experience. It wasn't until the release of Windows Vista in 2007 that Microsoft hired a third-party developer to remake several of their games with a common style. Then, for Windows 8, several solitaire games were entirely remade again as adware programs, and the free versions were deleted in the upgrade process.
