Rick and Morty is an animated science fiction comedy created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon and first shown on 2013-12-02. The show follows the self-obsessed mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith as they go on various adventures across different dimensions and often find themselves in ridiculously dangerous, but hilarious, situations. Rick and Morty are loosely styled after Emmett "Doc" Brown and Marty McFly from Back to the Future.
Personal
Several of my friends raved about this show when it first came out, but I had little interest in watching it. After seeing memes of it numerous times over several years, and watching teens at MAG Fest doing cosplay, I finally decided to give the show a try. I watched the first couple episodes and enjoyed it enough to continue a couple more seasons.

Review
Good
- The very bizarre style of aliens show a lot of creativity.
- Rick often has some really interesting ideas that make for impressive stories.
- Fourth wall breaking is difficult to pull off, but I think this show does a pretty good job of it.
Bad
- The show goes over-the-top with silliness to the point where it hurts the story. For example, when people are killed in one of the alternate universes, it's fine to ignore it because that universe will never be visited again, but, for the main universe to just move on as though nothing happened, it's a reminder that reality doesn't really apply even to the main universe, and that hurts the tension whenever anyone is in a potentially deadly encounter. Likewise, characters like Morty and Jerry often go from cowering in fear to hardcore killing machines within a few seconds which is a reminder that the characters aren't real and can just be whatever they need to be at the time.
- In a similar manner, Rick's behavior flip-flops between being coldly narcissistic to fatherly-caring too easily and frequently too be believable.
- The improvised television episodes are just lazy writing not very funny.
Ugly
- Nothing.
