I've read people say that Brian could have written this song about an overbearing, yet loving, mother, making this a sort of a "leaving home" tune, and I can certainly see that.

The most obvious interpretation I can see for this song is about a man breaking up with a woman, but I've also read people say that Brian could have written this song about an overbearing, yet loving, mother, making this a sort of a "leaving home" tune, and I can certainly see that as well.

I don't really understand the meaning of the subtitle "Stormtrooper In Stilettos". It obviously has nothing to do with ''[[Star Wars]]'' (which wasn't released until three years after the song was recorded), so it's probably a reference to the World War I German troopers trained for assaulting trenches. I imagine May viewed the woman in question as hardcore as a stormtrooper, yet still feminine enough to wear stiletto shoes. The subtitle "Stormtrooper In Stilettos" was used as the title of a Queen compilation single released in 2011, but it doesn't even contain ''She Makes Me''.

She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettos) is a progressive rock song by Queen. It is track B6 on the album Sheer Heart Attack. The song was recorded between July and September in 1974 at AIR, Rockfield, Trident, and Wessex Sound studios. The album was released on 1974-11-01.

The song was written and sung by guitarist Brian May, with John Deacon playing acoustic guitar. The song was produced by Queen and Roy Thomas Baker. The song's finale features what May referred to as "New York nightmare sounds", which include NYC police vehicle sirens and deep-breathing sounds which accompany the closing bars.

The most obvious interpretation I can see for this song is about a man breaking up with a woman, but I've also read people say that Brian could have written this song about an overbearing, yet loving, mother, making this a sort of a "leaving home" tune, and I can certainly see that as well.

The subtitle "Stormtrooper in Stilettos" is a bit vague. It obviously has nothing to do with Star Wars (which wasn't released until three years after the song was recorded), so it's probably a reference to the World War I German troopers trained for assaulting trenches. I imagine May viewed the woman in question as hardcore as a stormtrooper, yet still feminine enough to wear stiletto shoes. The subtitle "Stormtrooper in Stilettos" was used as the title of a Queen compilation single released in 2011, but it doesn't even contain She Makes Me.

Personal

This is my favorite song on the album, and one of my favorite Brian May songs, not only for its far-away mystical sound, but also for the lyrics that are both romantic, sadomasochistic, and portentous of an inevitable separation. The lyric "I know the day I leave her, I'd love her still" resonated with me as a teenager because, when I heard it, I thought of my high school girlfriend whom I was sure I would eventually break up with, yet continue to love.

I frequently played Sheer Heart Attack when I played Diablo, and now, I have a mental association with this song and the town of Tristram.

Lyrics

I love, she makes me
She is my heart
She is my love
She is my love

I know you're jealous of her
She makes me need
She is my love
She is my love

Who knows who she'll make me
As I lie in her cocoon
But the world will surely heal my ills
I'm warm and terrified
She makes me so

I know the day I leave her
I'd love her still
She is my love
She is my love

Who knows where my dreams will end
I'll follow as they grow
But the world will know
How long I'll take
And if I'm very slow
She makes me so
She is my love
She is my love
