St. Jimmy is an punk rock song by Green Day. The music was composed by Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, the lyrics were written by Armstrong and he also performed the vocals. It was originally released as track 6 on the album American Idiot on 2004-09-01. The song is the introduction of a character named "St. Jimmy," a rebel of the establishment.

I didn't hear this song until after I bought American Idiot, months after the album blew up. I initially didn't like it because I had a hard time understanding the lyrics, and I felt the "that's my name, don't wear it out," was awfully childish. However, the more I listened to the album, the more of the lyrics I figured out, and the more I like the structure of the song.

In particular, I like the opening verse and instruments, I also like the line, "The needle in the vein of the establishment."

St. Jimmy's comin' down across the alleyway,
Upon the boulevard like a zip gun on parade.
Lights of a silhouette,
He's insubordinate,
Comin' at you on the count of what the (1,2,3,4!)

My name is Jimmy and you better not wear it out.
Suicide commando that your momma talked about.
King of the forty thieves and I'm here to represent.
The needle in the vein of the establishment.

I'm the patron saint of the denial,
With an angel face and a taste for suicidal.

Cigarettes and ramen and a little bag of dope.
I am the son of a bitch of Edgar Allen Poe.
Raised in the city in the halo of lights,
Product of war and fear that we've been victimized.

I'm the patron saint of the denial,
With an angel face and a taste for suicidal.

Are you talkin' to me?!
I'll give you somethin' to cry about!
St. Jimmy!

My name is St. Jimmy, I'm a son of a gun,
I'm the one that's from the way outside, now. (St. Jimmy)
A teenage assassin executing some fun,
In the cult of the life of crime, now. (St. Jimmy)

I'd really hate to say it, but I told you so,
So shut your mouth before I shoot you down 'ol boy. (St. Jimmy)
Welcome to the club and give me some blood.
I'm the resident leader of the lost and found. (St. Jimmy)

It's comedy,
And tragedy.
It's St. Jimmy,
And that's my name.
And don't wear it out!
