The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is a manga based on the video game. It was written and drawn by Akira Himekawa and published in Japan in January 2006. It has since been translated into English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian.

The story follows the general plot of the video game: an evil sorcerer named Vaati has turned Princess Zelda to stone, Link wants to save her, but doesn't know how. Fortunately, he meets a strange talking hat-like creature named Elzo who teaches him how to shrink down to the size of tiny fairies called the Picori and seek their help.

Personal

Being a fan of The Minish Cap game, when I found a copy of the Legendary Edition of this comic at MAG Fest 2022. I was compelled to buy it. I finished The Minish Cap portion on 2022-01-20. I had no interest in the Phantom Hourglass comic.

Status

I own the English translated The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap / Phantom Hourglass - Legendary Edition manga and have read it.

Review

Good

  • The art style fits the game quite well. I like the Picori especially. Himekawa draws great action and backgrounds.

Bad

  • The story is a bit dull. Vaati is an uninteresting villain and, yet again, Link has to rescue Zelda. At least the snarky Elzo is a bit interesting.
  • The story in the comic is quite a bit different from the game and only follows the general idea.

Ugly

  • In one scene, Link uses his shrunken stature to peer up a woman's dress. Encouraging this behavior is very inappropriate.
