The Wall is the eleventh studio album by Pink Floyd released on 1979-11-30. Due to it's length, it was released as a double album on vinyl and cassette. It is a concept album and rock opera which follows the life of a rock star named Pink who builds up a psychological "wall" to block out the evils of the world around him.

Roger Waters, who wrote the majority of the album said the character Pink is loosely modeled after himself and former band member Syd Barrett. During the recording of the album, Waters frequently clashed with keyboardist Richard Wright and Wright was eventually fired. The album was made into a surreal film in 1982 which was partially animated.

Personal

Own?Yes, CD - USA.

My brother and sister were fans of Pink Floyd because of our father, but I didn't have much interest in them when I was still a kid. In my teen years, the more I heard from this album on the radio, the more I liked it. I bought my own copy in the late 1990s or early 2000s and listened to it many times which helped cement it into my psyche. It is now my favorite Pink Floyd album. I've also seen two different visual productions of this album including an old-fashioned laser show.

Album Art

Because Roger Waters didn't like the fact that designer Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis included his design for the previous Pink Floyd album, Animals in his book, the company was not rehired for this album, resulting in the very dull white wall backdrop. Cartoonist Gerald Scarfe was hired to design the hand-written title logo which was printed to stickers in black and sometimes red and applied to the albums. Later re-releases print the logo directly on the album cover, sometimes in red, but usually in black. Scarfe went on to contribute to the various cartoons used to promote the album and the animated segments in the 1984 film.
