TurboGrafx-CD
The TurboGrafx-CD is a CD-ROM attachment developed by NEC for the TurboGrafx-16 video game console. It was first released in Japan as the CD-ROM² on 1988-12-04, then in North America in November 1989. The peripheral attached to the main console with an interface unit and allowed the TurboGrafx-16 to read data from the CD greatly expanding the console's ROM and also play audio CDs.
The device was upgraded and integrated into the main console a number of times. In 1991, a Japanese-only upgrade was released called the Super CD-ROM². On 1991-09-21, Japan released the PC Engine Duo which combined the PC Engine and Super CD-ROM² into a single unit which was later released in the USA in October 1992 as the TurboDuo. On 1993-03-25, Japan released the PC Engine Duo-R, which was just a cosmetic upgrade of the Dup, then, on 1994-06-25, Japan released the PC Engine Duo-RX which included a new 6-button controller.
