This is an explanation of my Video game ranking scale.

Categories

Each category is ranked on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest.

  • Enjoyment:
  • Control: How easily the player can do what she wants. If the game uses an avatar, does it respond quickly to input? Is the interface intuitive?
  • Appearance: How the game looks visually. Does the artistic style work? Is there good use of color? Is the animation fluid?
  • Sound: How the game sounds. Is the music interesting? Does it properly accent the game's style? Are the sound effects effective?

Rank Description Example Games
1 A game at this level must be seriously flawed to the point where it's practically unplayable, not just because it's so bad, but because it is full of glitches. The graphics and sound will be terrible, the controls will be awkward, basically, the game will not offer anything even remotely enjoyable.

9 Near perfect.
10 The perfect game. This represents a paragon of video game achievement. It smoothly combines artistic graphics and music with fluid controls and enjoyable experience throughout the entire game. This doesn't mean I can't find issues to complain about, but they will be so minor, they'll be easily forgotten. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario World
